Prostest against the passing of Prop 8

I borrowed this picture from my friend Lisa C.'s blog. I thought it was such a poignant picture of this weeks protests. The beauty of the night-lite Temple, standing in all it's glory of truth and righteousness....surrounded by those called to serve and protect our City.
Protecting what is Sacred to us from an angry protest because we executed our American Right and Voted against redefining Marriage!

Our Prophet asked us to stand up for this cause, he asks...we abide. Even if it causes turmoil in our life. We are being accused of bigotry and Hatred! Yet, it is so far from what most of us feel. Many of us have friends or relatives that are gay. We do not love them any less....we appreciate them for who they are. However, we feel strongly that marriage is between a man and a woman. We exercised our right to vote and to Stump for our Cause. But the hatred that has been shown to our church is astonishing. The church released this statement this week.
"It is important to understand that this issue for the church has always been about the sacred and divine institution of marriage -- a union between a man and a woman," according to the statement. "Allegations of bigotry or persecution made against the church were and are simply wrong. The church's opposition to same-sex marriage neither constitutes nor condones any kind of hostility toward gays and lesbians.
"Even more, the church does not object to rights for same-sex couples regarding hospitalization and medical care, fair housing and employment rights, or probate rights, so long as these do not infringe on the integrity of the traditional family or the constitutional rights of churches."
A protester was being interviewed this week and asked what side you were going to stand on? The side of equality or Hatred. My first thought was I am going to stand on the Lord's side.
It is a hymn we sing in Sacrament...Who's on the Lord's Side? Who?
Who's on the Lord's Side? Who? Now is the time to show. We ask it fearlessly. Who's on the Lord's side? Who? The enemy's awake. Who's on the Lord's side? Who?

we sang that hymn in church today too, and I can't think of a more perfect way to open the meeting! If we are condemned for standing up for our beliefs, then so be it. I would rather have some people think badly of me for a few short years on earth that Heavenly Father be dissappoinetd in me for eternity!
